Paradise Lost

“Paradise Lost” was written by John Milton and it portrays the concept of good vs. evil. In the book, it shows how against God Satan was and how that ended up being the reason for his fall from Heaven into Hell. Satan was angel prior his fall but his negative thoughts, such as jealousy and hatred, were what led him down that path. He envied God and wanted to take control of Heaven and his continuous attempts are what caused him to be banished from Heaven

The theme of good vs. evil plays a central role in Paradise Lost. You can clearly tell which side is which person. As Satan portrays evil qualities such as bitterness and envy, God portrays the opposite. There is a need for both in the world as one wouldn’t exist without the other. Without Satan acting the way he did, God wouldn’t show his good qualities. You can see this theme everywhere in today’s pop culture. Although you see it everywhere, sometimes it’s not as clear which side is which. Sometimes it depends on perspective and there might not be a definitive answer on who is good and who is evil. For example, in the story Beowulf we were made to believe that Beowulf was good and Grendel was evil. Although that may be true, we were never given Grendel’s perspective so there might also be a legitimate reason that Grendel had a reason for what he was doing.
